The Hook & Sling Review / Mr Double Down Presents Sisters With Soul (Part 3)

Welcome back!

I hope you’re all well as we hurtle on through the festive period head first and flailing!!!? It's been pretty full on this end, so to be able to stop for five minutes and share some more of 'The Good Stuff' with you is somewhat of a welcome rest!

First up, a huge thanks to one and all who made it out on Saturday for our monthly night. It was by far and away the best night we’ve had at the The Vestry and a huge turnout on the night saw it being one in one out on the door by 9pm! All those who had made it inside got down on the good foot and created a great party atmosphere. Well done you! A massive thank you to Ash, Lewis and The Bar Staff, who as always, helped things run smoothly!

We’ll be back at The Vestry on Saturday 2nd January with more of the same. All the details can be found by clicking on the Events Page.

In the mean time, keep an ear to the ground for details of a special night we’ll be collaborating with the Sussex By The Sea Crew on over the Christmas and New years period. More details and ticket information to follow shortly!

So onto the final instalment of our Sisters With Soul Mini series, and after two fantastic mixes from both Hoppin’ John and The Popcorn King, it’s down to me to round up the series (for the time being….) with a mix of my own.

If you’ve taken some time out to listen to Parts 1 and 2 you’ll know the bar has been set pretty high with the standard of the 45s that have been chosen. So after much deliberation I set about putting something together for you all that will at least hopefully meet your expectations.

I tried to focus on the vocal deliveries from our soulful sisters for Part 3. Each track I’ve pulled out of the crates has, IMHO, something special in the grooves. From the powerful deliveries from Amy A and Marva Whitney, through to the melodic Gospel goodness of Truzella McClain, each track is a great example of Sisters With Soul.

I hope you enjoy the mix (and the mini series) as much as I did putting it together. Stay safe and I’ll be back here shortly with something special for you.
